good morning. tough morning for livermore right now. let's get to you the maps. the bay area looking fine as you would expect at 4:32 except out of the altamont past. west 580 approaching spring town reports of a sigalert, they expect it to take over a half hour to clear. this is blocking two of the westbound lanes, the left two get by. a lot of crews, injuries are reported. it will hold folks up in livermore. livermore, dublin, moving smoothly. light volume through the area. traffic starts to build that's one of the first spots. back to you. >> breaking news in new jersey. the hunt for a gunman who opened fire in the garden state plaza outside new york city is over this morning. police say his body was found in a remote area of the mall just a few hours ago. nbc bay area's tracie strahan is in paramus where it all came to

an end. >> reporter: what authorities describe as a nightmare scenario at this the largest mall in new jersey ended hours ago with the suspected gunman found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the basement of the mall, a man who not thought to have come here to injure anyone. this started around 9:30 last night, richard shoop, entered a public space here at the mall in paramus, firing at least six rounds. a 911 call made police surround the area. at least 500 officers including s.w.a.t. teams in new jersey state police going store by store every inch of the 2 1/2 million square foot mall in the hunt for shoop. people were forced to run inside a store with officers approaching with guns drawn trying to confirm their identity and make sure they were not the suspect. shoop's body was found in a remote area of the mall around

3:20 this morning from the self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. he is a man authorities say is known to them, with a history of drug use. the gun, a modified ak-47, was one that authorities confirm was taken from his brother. and they don't think he came here to actually shoot anyone. that's the latest. i'm tracie strahan. back to you. >> thank you very much. denver police this morning arresting two boys who broke into an empty middle school overnight. they were armed and carrying back packs. officers now doing a sweep of the school just to make sure things are safe there now. janitors at the school called police late last night after seeing the boys break in. the bomb squad was also called in, happy to report nobody was hurt. police now saying the boys were actually carrying bb guns. >> there was a stirring tribute to the tsa agent killed at l.a.x. >> one, two, three.

we are tsa. >> hundreds of tsa employees gathered in los angeles last night to remember gerardo hernandez. they shared stories and sorrow. >> gerardo was our hero. >> he was loved. he was a brother. he's going to be missed. he's never going to be forgotten. >> another agent was shot in the foot on friday. he is now talking about what happened that day. >> i was injured while helping an elder man trying to get to a safe area. i turned around and there was a gunman and shot me twice. >> tsa agent james fear was also injured and has been released from the hospital. teacher brian ludmer was shot in the leg and must undergo surgery. the alleged shooter, paul see

ciacia was shot by police and is still unable to communicate with investigators. his condition is improving. >> new this morning the search for a suspect after a police chase that span add good deal of the south bay, this has been called off. the chase started about 10:30 last night at the intersection of fair oaks avenue and central expressway in sunnyvale. chp joining the pursuit and san jose as the suspects headed southbound on 101. the chase has ended and ended when the suspects crashed at the exit off 101 in morgan hill. right now we can tell you one suspect in custody, a second one has fled the scene still on the loose this morning. police 3 have not revealed what started this chase. >> an east bay man will be in federal court facing charges of sex trafficking of children. 23-year-old jamal broussard is

accused of forcing two underage girls to work as prostitutes. papers say the girls worked in several states over a period of 2 1/2 years. if convicted broussard face as minimum of 15 years in prison for each time one of the women was transported out of the state. >> today, it is election day and yes, voters across the bay area, they will be heading to the polls from right now. there are a few hot button measures attracting a lot of attention. >> in san francisco, the controversial washington project, the subject of proposition 8 and c is up for approval. a yes vote would clear the measure for more than 130 luxury condos to be built across from the ferry building along the embarcadero. if rejected the project would be revised. >> in the south bay sunnyvale voters will decide on measure c, a wide ranging gun control proposal cracking down on gun

gilroy. what's happening is we're getting a dry north wind, i told you the winds were going to crank yesterday. they did on time. as a result of that dry downsloping wind we're starting out mild in some cities now where we had 31 degrees yesterday in napa. as we head throughout day today it will be a sunny afternoon, temperatures are going to nudge up a touch from yesterday's highs, tomorrow will peak and then those showers come back into the forecast. and the chance is looking promising. i'll show you when on the seven-day forecast, coming up in a few minutes. today 75 in livermore. 70 in fremont and 70 degrees in san francisco. so a nice mild day in livermore. not a great way to start the day with a sigalert. >> exactly right. i want to let folks know here this bay bridge is moving smoothly and the maze and the approach as you come to the area look at that view. we're looking at a smooth flow for the approaches to the maze and the east bay. it's farther east where livermore is the topic. the weather there 58 degrees, a

shooth drive b. the same for the speeds. but getting into the area out of the altamont slowing, the orange where speeds come down to 50 miles per hour range. you have half lanes open. just two there, westbound 580 at spring town boulevard. there is a big rig reported involved in this crash. sounds like it stopped to block the other two cars in front of the driver for safety sake. that's why the big rig is there. it's a distraction with all of the vehicles just as the commute is starting to build coming in. we'll track this but it only afolks through livermore if you make the cut through livermore 84 is moving smoothly into the south bay or the northbound routes are moving as well. a quick check out there, this is the north bay, southbound 101, few cars. a lighter flow than yesterday but we're watching for the time change to affect pattern when we have usually the heaviest flow for the week. >> 4:40. today is the grand opening day for the $800 million great resort and casino in sonoma

county. the casino located off one of the golf courses on golf course drive off 101, that is in rohnert park. it will open for the 350,000 square foot gambling palace. it's so big they call at palace. it boasts 3,000 slot machines, 144 gaming tables, and 13 restaurants, got to feed yourself to keep up with that gaming. 10,000 casino-bound vehicles expected in the area you might want to bet on a daily traffic jam. >> we are prepared to override the traffic lights, we're prepared to open up the carpool lanes to full traffic. we have social media. we'll update our personal facebook here, santa rosa chp. >> bracing for the onslaught. more locals have their doubts, even with the additional police for all of the traffic problems. the casino provides 2,000

welcome back everyone. a good tuesday morning to you. after years of debate on the issue the u.s. senate is poised to pass the employment nondiscrimination act. the bill passed a critical test vote monday 61-30. it needed at least 60 to advance to a formal vote. that vote should come later this week but the bill doesn't appear to have enough support in the house. federal law would prohibit discrimination based on sexual preference and gender identity. something the transgender legal center in san francisco deals with regularly. >> we feel as more people coming out and being themselves and work places want to be diverse

so it's time for the laws to kind of step up and meet where the rest of the world is at. >> a spokesman for republican house speaker john boehner says the speaker opposes the legislation because he thinks it will cost america jobs and increase frivle lus lawsuits. >> this building seeing a long bis of events including sports but the future of the houston astrodome could be decided today. texans head to the polls to vote to save the building or tear it down. a referendum would authorize up to $217 million to transform the astrodome into a giant convention and event center. just last weekend more than 4,000 people waited in line there for hours to buy a piece of that dome. the so-called eighth wonder of the world was once home to the nfl's houston oilers and baseball's houston astros. they did a bad news bear movie there one time. nobody has played there since

investors taking cues from earnings report shrugging off concerns that the markets are due for a correction. we're going to get data on the services or the non-manufacturing sector. the dow rose 23 yesterday, 15,639. the the nasdaq to 3936. google is opening a new type of help desk. a new service called help out offering live video chats with expert who is can provide advice on everything from step by step cooking instructions, home repair to marriage counseling. google teamed up with 1,000 in fashion, fitness and a lot of topics, the sessions can run for a few minutes to several hours, it depends on the topic and how much help you need. the the pricing is set by the expert. google is going to take a 20% cut of the fee. this morning make sure you pack a turkey sandwich. we have a lot of shopping to do. kmart and series saying they are going to be open for about 40 hours from 6:00 a.m. on

point of the day, that will occur at about 6:30. so keep that in mind. the sun's coming up early but wasn't it crazy how it went down so early yesterday. kind of caught me offguard. san francisco clear out there this morning. temperaturewise, chilly but not as bad. 43 at santa rosa. in the mid-30s at this point yesterday. 53 in san francisco. and high pressure is going to do its job. you can see the clouds arcing up and around the ridge of high pressure. going to keep things mild. the temperatures today actually nudging up above seasonal averages in some cities so that means the mid 70s and a warmer day as we head throughout wednesday. 70 in fremont and 70 degrees in san francisco. i want to spend extra time on your seven-day forecast because we've got changes. i want to make sure you're aware. wednesday into thursday look at the difference. 78 wednesday, down to 73 by thursday, we're also going to cloud up late thursday into friday. that's when our first system comes through.

this can produce light showers up to the north. we have a better chance as we head through sunday into monday. i think everybody is going to see a little bit of shower activity sunday night into monday morning. that will tumble our temperatures down to winter-like levels. you want to keep that in mind if you're looking for the warmth today and tomorrow are the days to get out there. back to you, john and laura. >> thank you. it's 4:51. today the san jose council talking about letting people fire weapons in city limits to try to take care of those feral pig problems out there. last week we told you about those pigs destroying lawns at homes and businesses. they caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage at a country club. fish and wildlife granting the club a permit to hire somebody to trap and kill the animals. but only law enforcement and people acting in self defense actually have legal rights to fire a gun in city limits. the proposal would also allow

trappers to shoot the animals after they catch them. >> tonight the santa clara board of supervisors will review its policy how local laurmt cooperate with federal immigration authorities. the board will discuss a county law restricting requests by ice officials to hold undocumented criminal suspects up to 48 hours after they were supposed to be released. that allows ice officials time to arrest them for possible deportation. the county is considering relaxing its current policy which restricts holds on youth and requires a federal official reimburse local law enforcement. >> 4:52. coming up on "today in the bay," new details about what caused an nfl coach to collapse at halftime. >> the count down is on t final prep as russia gets ready to send the olympic torch to space. >> from russia to rush hour we're looking at a big morning for tuesday. the peninsula moves smoothly. we'll talk about the problem in the east bay.

from the nfl a new update on the condition of a houston texans coach gary kubiak. he collapsed during sunday's game. kubiak did suffer a minor stroke that caused a loss of blood flow to part of his brain. the problem the good news is it is treatable.

kubiak is not expected to have residual side effects and could recover quickly. he remains hospitalized now but at this point reports say he is coherent and in good spirits. so very happy to hear that. >> a lucky man. 4:56. the winter games in sochi are 94 days away and the russians -- we are certainly -- our calendar, a clock down there. the russians are getting ready as well, sending the torch into space. >> taking it to another galaxy. the rocket ready to transport the flame to the international space station which was put on a launch pad earlier this morning. getting set to launch a crew of three including an engineer from nasa, planning to lift off with the torch on thursday. i'm curious if they have the torch ignited. probably not. >> don't they have to? keep it lit? that's part of it. >> two russian cosmonauts are expected to take the torch for a
